The Making of Limerick Colbert Railway Station Wiki Article

I recently undertook the creation of a Wiki Article on Colbert Station in Limerick as part of my Digital Media module at University of Limerick. I was part of a group of four called 'Garryspillane'. Our first task when undergoing this assignment was to chose whether to make a video project or a wiki article. We chose the latter as with everyone in the group working from different counties it would've been near impossible to organise shoots in Limerick. We chose Colbert Station because we felt it was an interesting location and one of historical significance in Limerick, and finally we assigned roles to every member of the group. My role was to research the history of the station.

I started by researching as much as I could find online about the station, fact checking as I went. The assignment was slightly more difficult than I thought it would be at first as there wasn’t as many sources of information as I thought there might be online, this was compounded by the fact I was not in Limerick and couldn’t visit any local places that might offer more information. After a couple of days digging however, I had gathered enough information to begin writing my section about the history of the station. What I learned from the experience is how difficult it is to fully research & fact check a subject on my own without the help of Wikipedia.
